Susan W. Salmond, EdD, RN, ANEF, FAAN

Susan W. Salmond, EdD, RN, ANEF, FAAN, is Executive Vice Dean and Professor at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, School of Nursing, with primary responsibility for academic programs and clinical practice. She is also lead on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation ‒ New Jersey Nursing Initiative (NJNI) grant that supports the integration of population health into the nursing curriculum and defines the role of nursing in a population health context.  In this capacity she is working with academic programs and clinical sites across the state to ensure a future workforce that can meet national health needs. Dr. Salmond has also made strides to prepare faculty to teach to a curriculum embedded within the population health context: she and the NJNI team have developed multiple modules and health programs and now a population health seminar series to meet faculty and other professional development needs.
 Dr. Salmond has authored or co-authored nearly 100 publications, including “A Population Health Approach to America’s Opioid epidemic” which is in the current (January/February 2019) issue of Orthopaedic Nursing and “Healthcare Transformation and Changing Roles for Nursing,” and “Care Bundles: Increasing Consistency of Care,” both of which appeared in the January/February 2017 issue of Orthopaedic Nursing. She received her BSN from Villanova University College of Nursing, which in 2012 presented her its highest of award, the College of Nursing Medallion. She is a 2012 inductee into the Hall of Honor at Seton Hall University College of Nursing, where she received her MSN with a specialization in chronic illness management. She earned her EdD from Teachers College, Columbia University. Certified in nursing education, transcultural nursing, and leadership, Dr. Salmond is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a fellow of the National League of Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education.
